WELCOME to the New York Bird Dog Series!
Five years ago I bought a German short haired pointer. Just a few months later I was watching television and came across a show that changed my life forever. Once I saw my first BDC Tournament Hunter episode I was hooked. While sitting in my living room watching Mark Sweeney, Ken Neese, Bernie Birkenholz, Bob Garrity, and Craig Steinbach, just to name a few, I decided that I would try to train my new pup and we would give it a try.
At fifteen months old, Augie entered his first tournament event in Morely, Michigan and took 1st place in the Amateur Pointing division and 3rd place in the Top Gun Pointing division. This event was just the beginning and we have taken great strides since.
Augie and I had such a great time during the first year of competition that I decided it was time to introduce "Tournament Hunting" to bird hunters of New York.
NYBDS was founded in the fall of 2008 and in 2009 we joined forces with Jack Heim and his New Jersey Gun Dog Championship club. Each year Jack and I host events in New York and New Jersey and draw players from all over the country.
Once you become a member of NYBDS/NJGDC you and your dog can compete for our "Dog of the Year " award and at the same time donate part of your entry fee to a great charity. Since our inception, we have donated $2.50 of every entry to Children with Autism. Please visit our Autism page and see what we have accomplished!
Our organization has grown quite a bit over the past four years and in 2011 we were rewarded by BDC and allowed to host the "Players Championships",a BDC "Super Major" event. The 2011 Players was the first ever BDC "Super Major" to be hosted on the east coast! After hosting our second Players Championship in 2012, I am proud to say that the players mentioned above that I watched on television have now competed in a NYBDS/NJGDC event in New York State!
I hope you enjoy our site and decide to join us at an event. I promise you and your dog will have the time of your lives!
All NYBDS/NJGDC events
